Each year our children are encouraged to support national and local charities to raise their awareness of the needs of others. Money is raised in number of ways including non-uniform days, fayres, sales and various other initiatives.
The following charities have been chosen in recent years by the children and staff of Martley CE Primary school:
- Children in Need
- Comic Relief/Sports Relief
- Poppy Appeal and the Royal British Legion
- Haiti Earthquake Appeal DEC
- Maggs Day Centre
- Text Santa (Make a Wish, Save the Children and Macmillan)
- Cancer Research UK
- Kambarage Primary school-Tanzania
- Our School
Other charities maybe supported throughout the year depending on events and circumstances.
Mrs Worsley led an assembly to help raise money for the children’s charity, Get Kids Going! The children were given a Smartie box and asked to fill the box (once the Smarties had been eaten) with coins and return when full – a good use of recycling!
“Hi! Thank you so much for looking at our page.
We are Georgina Worsley and Charlotte Keyser. Sisters who are running the London marathon – WOW that sounds bonkers – but we are going to do it.
We fully appreciate that these days a marathon seems like no big deal. We all know someone who has run a marathon. But when you are two ordinary girls with busy lives, it does seem quite a big deal. When you study the 16 week training plan and you realise you will run nearly 400 miles before you even get to the marathon, it seems a lot. Crazy even. Completing this gargantuan challenge together will be far more fun and we’ll not be alone running miles and miles in the cold of Jan and Feb!
Please support us for Get Kids Going! A brilliant and important charity.
Get Kids Going! is a charity that provides sport and mobility equipment for disabled children and young people. Sport can be life changing for your mental and physical health and it should be available for all children to enjoy. It’s giving disabled children the ‘Ability’ to take part in sport, taking the focus away from their ‘Disability’.
Sport was a huge part of both our childhoods and it’s still very important to us today. Running the London marathon has been a dream of mine (George) for some years and having a young family and running a business has made it feel an almost impossible task. HOWEVER, Charlotte and I are going to take this on and want to raise important funds for this great charity, so kids of all abilities can take part in sport… and who knows, we could be supporting the next generation of incredible Paralympians!
